Postal Vote Refresh coming up

Release Date:
Tuesday, January 15, 2019 - 14:30

Postal Voters are being asked to renew their postal or proxy vote signature as Corby Borough Council conducts its annual Postal Vote Refresh.

As part of important security measures all postal and proxy voters must provide a fresh signature specimen every five years. Everyone who is required to submit a fresh signature will receive a new application form through the post and will have until Monday 4th March 2019 to return it in the pre-paid envelope provided. If the application is not received by that date, their postal/proxy vote arrangement will be cancelled and they will have to re-apply or vote in person at a polling station.

There is also an option to tell us that a postal/proxy vote is no longer required.

More than 8,000 people currently hold an absent vote and around 1,126 of those will be written to in order to provide a fresh signature.

We will send a reminder application form to everyone who does not reply by 4th February and cancellation notices will be sent out on Monday 11th March to those people who have not responded at all. This does not prevent voters from requesting a postal vote in future; they will simply need to reapply for a postal/proxy vote.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. I have not received a refresh form.
Fresh signatures are only required every 5 years, so the current signature we have must be less than 5 years old. You will get your refresh letter another year.

  1. There is more than one postal voter at this address, why have I received a form but they have not?
This will be because it has been 5 years since your postal vote was either set up, renewed or processed. The other person(s) will receive their postal vote refresh letter another year.

  1.  I or someone I know can no longer provide a consistent signature on this form.
Contact Electoral Services on 01536 46 40 12 there is a possibility a Signature Waiver could be arranged. Assistance can be given to fill in this form and it should be returned promptly to the Council. Once a waiver is granted, this means a signature will not be required on their postal vote in the future.

  1. Can I talk to someone about this?
Any enquiries can be made to Electoral Services on 01536 46 40 12.

Do I have to re-tell you my date of birth?
No, this field is optional, but it may help with processing your form if you provide it.
