Well over 200 bags of waste have been removed from Corby’s communities thanks to local community groups, businesses and partners joining forces with Corby Borough Council for another successful Great British Spring Clean.

16 clean-up events were held across the borough over the week beginning 25th March, with a total of 229 bags of waste collected, and a range of activities held to support the national Keep Britain Tidy campaign.

Local youngsters took the opportunity to get involved through a total of 14 school sessions delivered across town and rural primary schools and pre-school settings. These included clean-up events, workshops discussing the anti-social impact of litter, litter tennis, stone painting and assembly sessions  highlighting this year’s campaign theme - plastic  pollution.  A school competition was also launched across 20 local schools, inviting children to design their own litter picker.  The competition deadline is 3rd May and is being delivered in partnership with environmental business Helping Hands.

Throughout the week, Corby Borough Council’s Neighborhood Warden and Streetscene Teams also conducted dog fouling patrols across Weldon Woodland Park, East Carlton Country Park and areas of the Beanfield estate.  This was supported by footpath stenciling and dog walker engagement, handing out free dog waste bags.

Corby Borough Council’s Lead member for Housing and Neighbourhood Services Cllr Bob Eyles said:

‘I’d like to thank all partners, council staff and volunteers involved for their hard work into making what is our third Spring Clean campaign a great success.’

Corby Borough Council’s Lead Member for Environment, Cllr Mark Pengelly said:

‘Corby Borough Council will continue to support the GBSC campaign as part of our ongoing drive to reduce the levels of litter across the borough and to educate communities on disposing their litter responsibly.’
