New Vaccination Centre to open on Monday

Release Date:
Friday, January 22, 2021 - 13:00

Northamptonshire’s COVID-19 Vaccination Programme is pleased to confirm that the county’s new Vaccination Centre will open on Monday 25 January at the Royal Pavilion building, Summerhouse Road, Moulton Park, Northampton.

The new centre adds to the existing vaccination services already up and running across Northamptonshire, including hospital hubs at Kettering and Northampton General Hospitals and at 16 GP-led community clinics, and it will be capable of vaccinating thousands of people each week as national supplies allow.

Vaccinations are provided from the centre by appointment only. Appointments for the public will be managed by the national NHS COVID-19 Vaccination Booking Service, which will send letters out to eligible people explaining how they can book online or by phone.

The Northamptonshire COVID-19 Vaccination Programme is also working directly with local health and care employers to directly book eligible staff into appointment slots.

Over its first few days of operation, the new centre will be building up and testing its systems to be able to operate seven days a week from 8am to 8pm. The testing period is essential to ensure everything is in place to operate at full capacity.

It will be staffed by clinicians, non-registered vaccinators, administrative staff and a range of volunteers who will help make a visit to the centre run as smoothly and safely as possible.

Chris Pallot, Northamptonshire’s COVID-19 vaccination programme director, said: “Our local vaccination services have already vaccinated many thousands of the people who need it most across Northamptonshire – and the launch of our new Vaccination Centre will give us the capacity to vaccinate thousands more each week as the national vaccination campaign is stepped up and supply increases.

“Readying the centre for its launch has required a monumental effort, with all of our NHS services working closely together with local authorities on all the necessary planning and preparation. We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved – in particular the staff and volunteers who will be running the service – and we very much look forward to welcoming the first patients to their booked appointments.”

The Northamptonshire COVID-19 Vaccination Programme team has prepared a short ‘virtual tour’ video of the new centre to demonstrate how the new Vaccination Centre will work. Click here to watch: https://youtu.be/6TEAndXmz7A.

The video will also be available along with further information about the Vaccination Centre and the local vaccination programme for the public at www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/covidvaccine from Monday 25 January.

Local people are reminded not to contact the NHS about the vaccine but to wait for the NHS to contact them when it is their turn.
