Corby Borough Council and Danesholme Communicare Association have stepped in to help save a local Library.
Borough councillors at Corby’s One Corby Policy Committee voted to grant a new lease to Danesholme Communicare Association at 14 Danesholme Square at a minimal rent in order to maintain the library service for residents. The library service is presently provided by Northamptonshire County Council, but their current support is coming to an end.
Danesholme Communicare Association have asked to take on a new lease in order to maintain the current library service at the existing premises. This will be an independent service with no financial support from Northamptonshire County Council.
Corby Borough Council have agreed the minimal rent lease on a five year term subject to a business case study being received and agreed.
Ward Councillor for Danesholme, Cllr Colleen Cassidy, said:
“Library services play an extremely important role in our communities and to lose this service in Danesholme would be a great loss to the residents.
“We are very pleased to be working in partnership with Danesholme Communicare Association to save the library service.
“We look forward to the library in Danesholme remaining open to the community and providing services for young and old for the foreseeable future.”
