Corby Borough Council are working alongside partner agencies and local communities to make the borough safer, cleaner and greener as part of the Keep Britain Tidy Great British Spring Clean campaign.

This year’s national theme is ‘working together’ to reduce the amount of single use plastic littering the environment, encouraging responsible disposal and recycling where possible.  The programme will also support the Great Big School Clean, scheduled for Friday 22nd March.

A range of community clean-ups and education activities will be delivered from Monday 25th – Sunday 31st March in an effort to tackle litter, which is raised as a consistent local priority across the borough. Enforcement patrols will also take place to tackle dog fouling during the week.  A litter picker design competition will also run in local primary schools during the week in partnership with litter picker manufacturer, Helping Hand Environmental.

Corby Borough Council’s Lead Member for Housing and Neighbourhood Services, Cllr Bob Eyles said:

‘We are pleased to be supporting the Keep Britain Tidy campaign again. We’re hoping to raise awareness of the impact of single use plastic on our environment through our school sessions this year.’

Corby Borough Council’s Lead Member for Environmental, Cllr Mark Pengelly said:

‘The Spring Clean campaign is an excellent way of encouraging all partners, local businesses and communities to play their part in making the places we live, work and play in cleaner.’

Stacey Lovering, Area Sales Manager for Helping Hand Environmental said:

‘We are delighted to be supporting this fantastic competition. It is a great  opportunity for children to not only showcase their artistic skills but also encourage them to begin thinking about Litter, the impact it has on the Environment and what they can do to make a difference in their own community’
