Following the news that Carillion has signed a contract with Network Rail to upgrade the existing track and infrastructure on the route from London to Corby, Leader of Corby Borough Council, Cllr Tom Beattie, said:
‘This is fantastic news and a very welcome improvement to Corby’s infrastructure. Under the signed contract, Carillion Powerlines will undertake work to complete the electrification of the route from London to Corby.
‘This significant improvement will provide people travelling to and from Corby a faster and more reliable way to travel and will also benefit Corby’s economy, complementing our Borough’s continued regeneration and growth.’
Carillion announced the exciting news yesterday (Monday 6th November). The contract is expected to generate revenue for Carillion Powerlines, a 50:50 Joint Venture with Powerlines Group, of c£260 million over the next three years. Work has said to be commencing shortly.
