On Saturday 10th June, Corby Borough Council held the Borough’s first ever Skate Slam event at Danesholme Skate Park and with around 100 spectators coming to cheer on the competitors it was a ‘wheel’ success.
Along with live DJ sets and professional demonstrations on the ramps, two competitions were held, 8-11 year olds and 12 – 15 year olds, in which 7 youngsters in each category donned their safety gear and took part.
With all of the speed and tricks shown on the day, competition was fierce, but there had to be a winner. Congratulations to Trafford Campbell (age 11) and Donovan Dunkley (age 12) who each won their age category.
Also a huge well done to Raimie Willmott (age 10) and Danny Huarns (age 12) who came runner up and Harry Jolly (age 11) and Jack Dawson (age 13) who came 3rd place.
Corby Borough Council’s Neighbourhood Manager, Chris Everett, said:
‘First of all we would like to congratulate all 14 competitors that took part in our first ever Skate Slam competition. You have all done yourself proud and our Neighbourhood Management Team were amazed not only by your talent but also by your spirit on the day.
‘It was great to see so many people turn up and we hope that this is the first Skate Slam of many to come.’
Corby Borough Council’s Neighbourhood Management Team would like to thank all volunteers, DJs, professional riders and commentators who gave their time to make the event a success. Also thanks to the local community for attending and supporting the event.
