Rural Health Walk Groups

Join the East Carlton Health Walking Group and feel great in good company!

Come along on Mondays and Wednesdays and enjoy an hours walk from East Carlton Country Park which normally covers Middleton and Cottingham taking in some wonderful views along the Jurassic Way.  This group meets at 11am outside East Carlton Country Park Café.  It now has approximately 15-20 regular walkers led by a trained walk leader, so you can be sure you will be looked after while on the walk.  Whether you're beginning to start walking or you're an enthusiast, everyone is welcome as the walk is aimed at all fitness abilities.  The group is based on friendship and fun, while improving our levels of fitness, so we always end our walk with a chat over a cup of tea at the cafe.

Also on the 1st Wednesday of every month an additional walk away from the Park is organised so the group can enjoy some different scenery and try different walking routes. Foxton Locks and Fineshade Woods are two examples.

For more information or details about bus times to East Carlton Country Park, call  Noel Rogers on 01536 771837 or 01536 463177 or simply turn up on the day.

What is a Health Walk Group?

Walking for health basically means walking at a brisk pace, which can help to improve the strength of your heart and lungs, as well as developing stronger muscles and improving your flexibility. It’s not about speed walking! Everyone has their own ‘brisk pace’ so it’s about walking at a rate that’s comfortable for you. You should feel a warm ‘glow’, be slightly sweaty but still be able to carry on a conversation.

Walking is great as a way of improving your health. It’s not expensive, you’re out in the fresh air and if you join a group, it’s a great way to make new friends and have some fun along the way!

For more information about walking for health in general, visit the Walking the Way to Health Initiative website  http://www.wfh.naturalengland.org.uk/

Please remember to wear sensible clothing and footwear and bring snacks and water, particularly for the longer walks to keep energy levels up.
