Corby Borough has 7 rural parishes. They have a total population of approximately 4,294 residents and are split into 3 ward areas, Rural West (Cottingham, Middleton, East Carlton), Rural North (Rockingham, Gretton) and Rural East (Stanion, Weldon). The parishes are located in the wonderful countryside of the Welland Valley and also includes East Carlton Country Park.

The rural areas are associated with Corby’s strong cultural and heritage identity. East Carlton was chosen as a prime housing site for workers in the steel industry by Stewarts and Lloyd. Gretton was used as a conduit for the transportation of the iron ore for the Steel works in Corby from Scotland.

Our parishes face a number of challenges, including adapting to the growth agenda and development pressures, as well as the increasing pressure of rural services continually being fragmented and in decline. They’re keen to maintain their sense of identity in the face of increasing new build and future population increase. These challenges are not just exclusive to Corby Borough but are being experienced by many rural communities nationally.

As a team, we aim to build a more positive relationship between Corby Borough Council and the parishes. We will work together to tackle many key social issues that affect the rural areas including anti-social behaviour, flytipping and speeding. Rural Pride will also support local rural groups and communities to provide and improve services, as well as give local people the opportunity to participate in and access activities and projects that help improve their quality of life such as Health Walk Schemes and Rural Health Week.
Finally, by working together with local communities, Parish Councils, and partner agencies such as the Police, Northamptonshire ACRE and others, we can make our parishes the pride of Corby Borough and provide local residents with the services they need and deserve.
