3 Bin Scheme

The refuse and recycling scheme in Corby involves three wheelie bins which are collected on alternate weeks.  These are: 

Black wheelie bin

This wheelie bin is for your household rubbish that cannot be recycled e.g. plastic food wrappers, food waste (if you do not compost at home) and carrier bags. 

Brown wheelie bin

 This wheelie bin is for your recycling, you can place the following items in this bin:

Any coloured glass:

  • Jars*
  • Wine bottles*
  • Lager bottles*
  • Beer bottles*
  • Cooking oil bottles*
  • Any other glass bottles* 

NO other form of glass:

  • Pyrex dishes
  • Glass panes
  • Drinking glasses
  • Glass vases
  • Glass Ornaments
  • Light bulbs 

Plastic:

  • Drinks bottles*
  • Shampoo / conditioner bottles*
  • Yoghurt pots
  • Food trays / containers
  • Margarine tubs
  • Ice cream tubs 

NO other form of plastic:

  • Plastic Bags
  • Bin liners
  • Plastic film
  • Polystyrene

 

Paper:

  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Junk Mail
  • Phone Directories
  • Envelopes
  • Shredded paper 

 

Cans / Tins (aluminium / steel):

Including biscuit and sweet tins 

 

Waxed cartons:

  • Milk cartons
  • Fruit juice cartons 

 

* Bottle tops and jars lids can also be recycled

Green wheelie bin

This is for your garden waste and cardboard only: 

Garden Waste:

  • Grass cuttings
  • Hedge trimmings
  • Plants / weeds
  • Leaves

Cardboard:

  • Toilet roll tubes
  • Egg boxes
  • Cereal boxes
  • Cardboard packaging

NO other form of waste:

  • Food waste
  • Kitchen waste
  • Animal waste
  • Soil
  • Plastic bags
  • Bin liners
  • Plant pots

No Side Waste Policy

  • Since 2004, in support of reducing waste going to landfill, Corby Borough Council has had a policy of not collecting waste put out beside bins.
  • All waste must be placed inside the bin with the lid closed. Bins WILL NOT be emptied if the lids are open.
  • Waste sacks left in the street will be classed as flytipping which can result in financial penalties.
  • Please help us to maintain a cleaner, greener Corby.
