Private housing

The latest Stock Condition Survey for Corby Borough was carried out in 2005 by Managed Services and Consultancy Ltd. A further survey to validate this data and the BRE data will be carried out across the county in 2009, following funding from the Government of East Midlands.

The Regulatory Reform (Housing Assistance) (England and Wales) Order 2002 came into force on 18 July 2002, repealing much of the prescriptive legislation governing the provision of previous housing assistance and replaced it with new wide ranging powers to provide assistance for housing renewal significantly based on local needs and achievement of strategic objectives. The increased flexibility allows for new and innovative approaches to housing renewal and will require regular review together with the overall Housing Strategy.

The 2008-2011 Housing Strategy commits the Authority to meeting the targets set by government of 70% of vulnerable households, in the private sector, living in Decent Homes by 2010. The Private Sector Housing Renewal Policy 2007 as amended by addendum to Private Sector Housing Renewal Policy 2007 allows grant monies to be spent on delivering Decent Homes to vulnerable households and became effective from February 2007. It also considers adaptations needed by administering Disabled Facilities Grants. The Policy will be subject to further review, in 2009, as currently, the consideration of offering homeowners home loans to address repair works to meet the Decent Homes Standard is being undertaken countywide. Information on the Decent Home Standard can be viewed here. www.eastmidlandsdash.org.uk
