Most people take for granted that the buildings they use are safe, healthy and readily accessible. Building Control is the Council service with the task of ensuring this. We deal with the technical side of the construction process which is different from Planning Permission which looks at the appearance and suitability of a building in its environment. If you are in any doubt about which permissions will be required on work you are planning, it best to ring both Council Sections at an early stage to see which approvals you will need.
