Refresh your choice for a postal vote

Tuesday, 24 January, 2012 - 10:29

Corby Borough Council is asking residents who have chosen to vote in the elections by post for the past five years to let them know if they want to keep their postal vote.

Legislation requires that by 31st January each year every person who remains an absent voter, whose signature on the personal identifier’s record is more than five years old, must be sent a notice in writing requiring them to provide a fresh signature if they wish to remain an absent voter and informing them of the date on which they would cease to be entitled to vote by post or by proxy if they failed to do so.

Letters will soon be hitting the door mats of the relevant residents in order to collect the refreshed data and ensure that the Council holds as accurate a record as possible, potentially limiting the number of postal votes that are rejected due to mismatched identifiers.

If an absent voter has not responded within three weeks of the original notice (by 21st February 2012) a reminder notice will be sent. Any persons that does not respond to this reminder notice will be written to on or around 13 March to inform them that their absent vote has been cancelled and that they can either apply for a new application to vote by post or vote in person at their polling station in future elections.
