Kingswood’s unique development discussed

Thursday, 26 January, 2012 - 10:43

Corby’s new housing development was at the heart of Corby Borough Council’s Audit and Governance Committee last night (Wednesday 25th January 2012).

Leader of Corby Borough Council, Cllr Tom Beattie, said:

‘The Audit Commission’s report has highlighted one or two improvements surrounding the handling of the Kingswood project that the Council has either resolved or noted.

‘Although the projected returns from Kingswood may not be as much as the Council first anticipated due to the current economic climate, we cannot push aside the fact that the Kingswood development has created a total of 146 quality and affordable homes for our community.

‘A total of 116 of these were provided through one of the largest Kickstart funding allocations and 30 council homes, which are the first to be built in nearly 60 years, were provided through the Homes and Communities Agency Social Housing Grant programme. All 30 of our council homes within Kingswood have been snatched up and have helped find local families on our housing waiting list excellent properties to move in to.

‘As the Audit Commission outlines, Kingswood is a unique project for local government and understandably there will be lessons learnt along the way but overall it is a fantastic reminder of Corby’s ambition and dedication in providing residents with first class homes and a first class community.’
