Corby gets set for Sport Relief
The challenge is on as Corby Borough Council in partnership with the Corby Athletics Club gets set to host “The Corby Mile” with the aim of raising money and changing lives all in aid of Sport Relief 2012.
The Corby Mile gives participants the choice of a 1 mile, 3 mile or a more challenging 6 mile run around Rockingham Triangle Athletics Stadium, Rockingham Road, on Sunday 25th March from 11am-3pm.
Corby Borough Council has teamed up with Corby Athletics Club to run the event and all the money raised will be given to Comic Relief to help disadvantaged people, both in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.
The Corby Mile is intended to be a fun day for the whole family to enjoy so why not get into the spirit of things and turn up in fancy dress for when everyone joins together for a huge mass warm-up to kick off the day.
Adults can join in for just £6 (16 years old and over), £3 for youngsters (under 16 years old) or £15 for a family discount of two adults and two children. Residents can register from 11am before taking part in the warm up session at 12pm.
Corby Borough Council’s Lead Member for Community, Cllr John McGhee, said:
“Corby residents are some of the most generous and compassionate people in the country – we are always up for a challenge and I have no doubt that this year’s Corby Sport Relief Mile will be bigger and better than the last .
“I want to encourage the people of Corby to change lives by signing up, get sponsored and start raising money for Sport Relief today.”
Residents can sign up now by visiting the Sport Relief website, www.sportrelief.com, and start raising sponsorship money today or they can get more information by contacting Corby Borough Council’s Sport Development Team on 01536 464047.
